Susan & I hanging out with the bouys.
Refugees from Massachusetts

Susan Hodder and Michael Feldmann, a married couple in their mid-forties, came from Massachusetts with cookbooks, their non-stick spatulas and a dream of running the kind of Bed and Breakfast where they both would be proud to stay.

Susan has 20 years of experience in marketing and education, as well as being an accomplished artist and theatre director. A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and a superb chef, Susan is responsible for menu design and food preparation, decoration of the rooms, reservations, marketing and overall Executive functions of the Inn. Susan is on the Board of Directors of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce as well as the Board of Directors of the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor.

Michael, once labeled "a poster child for the do-it-yourselfer", is the consummate hands-on individual and is responsible for operations and facilities of the inn and develops and maintains the website. A pretty good cook in his own right, Michael is affectionately known as the "crapaud de cuisine" (Thats "Kitchen Toad" to you non-French speakers).

With almost 20 years of project and direct management in both the United States and abroad, Michael has experience in all facets of facility maintenance, and has spent the last eight years designing and developing internet applications. Michael is a passionate home-brewer, and believes that the Reinheitsgebot is not just a good idea, it's the law!

This is our fabulous staff We are so proud of our staff!

The Welch House is fortunate to have an outstanding staff of local young women who share in the work and the rewards of hospitality.

Tammy is Head Housekeeper, our only year-round employee, and our good right-hand. She enjoys being "mother" to the rest of our staff, as the girls are a refreshing change from the three boys she is busy raising at home.

Leah (our daughter) has been helping out since the beginning, and both Mae and Rebekah have been here for three summer seasons.

Mae is currently attending Bennington College in VT, and has been on the staff for two years. Ginger's has been with us for three years, and we're counting on her to return in 2008, despite attending Hofstra University this fall.

On her second year with us, Kjirsten's schedule at Brigham Young allows her to work from September through December, and we don't know what we'll do without her once she graduates! We still miss Anna, who worked our front desk for two seasons until graduating from Bates, and who now lives and works in NYC.

Michael is the one on the right.

Despite their hectic schedule, Susan and Michael still take time to enjoy the social events around town. This is them at Halloween. Michael is the one on the right.
