Tom Rush at the Opera House
Tom Rush's impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the '60s and the renaissance of the '80s and '90s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty and Garth Brooks have cited Tom as major influences. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Subsequently, his Club 47 concerts brought attention to emerging artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin. Tom is now celebrating his 50th year on stage and in the studio, still doing what audiences love him for: writing and playing "passionately, tenderly" knitting together the musical traditions and talents of our times.

  • July 2014
    Jul 18th | 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Paula Poundstone at the Opera House
Come enjoy the comedian called "At the top of her game" (San Francisco Chronicle), "Never been funnier" (Boston Globe), "Insightful, thought-provoking humor" (Chicago Tribune). 25 years ago Paula Poundstone climbed on a Greyhound bus and traveled across the country - stopping in at open mic nights at comedy clubs as she went. A high school drop-out, she went on to become one of the great humorists of our time. You can hear her through your laughter as a regular panelist on NPR's popular rascal of a weekly news quiz show, Wait Wait - Don't Tell Me. She tours regularly, performing standup comedy across the country, causing Bob Zany with the Boston Globe to write: "Poundstone can regale an audience for several hours with her distinctive brand of wry, intelligent and witty comedy." Audience members may put it a little less elegantly: "I peed my pants." While there is no doubt that Poundstone is funny, the thing that probably separates her from the pack of comics working today and that has made her a legend among comics and audiences alike is her ability to be spontaneous with a crowd.
