Want to get away for the weekend and experience something very cool in Maine?
Well, here are a few suggestions.
First of all, Cellardoor Vineyard is celebrating Vinfest 2010 on Saturday, October 2nd. Located in Camden, ME, Cellardoor Vineyard is less than an hour away. You can enjoy Boothbay Harbor and all the restaurants and shops that are just a few blocks from the Welch House, and still spend an incredible day at Vinfest 2010.
Vinfest 2010 is their annual fall harvest celebration and will include a full day of food, wine, music and activities. Enjoy grape stomping, a homemade wine competition, a volunteer grape harvesting adventure in the vineyard, grape crush demonstration, wine tastings, live music all day, hot air balloon rides, cooking demonstrations and a local artisan fair. How about the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta? This, believe me, is an experience you don’t want to miss.
I’m sure some of you have been to pumpkin festivals before. Yeah, yeah. Big pumpkins…Carved pumpkins, blah, blah, blah.
Well, here in Maine we grow big pumpkins, hollow them out, and then jump inside and race them on the Damariscotta River. Paddles for the purists and motors for the progressives.
Then, we shoot them out of cannons. Then we use a catapult and shoot them out into the river.
Well, it’s really not a catapult, it’s a trebuchet. But the effect is the same.
And don’t forget the food. There is, of course, also the Pumpkin Dessert competition. Most of the events are held on the 9th, 10th & 11th.
